The bugs are present in both paid/free ie linksys/buffalos a x86 paid users doesnt have any added benefit. What should entice a user to pay for a license. Rather than buy a router regarding the wireless channel. That is up to the user. Netgear firmware gives the option to select your country and provides the relevant channels to select.

It is the user that decides. If you are caught by the law that is the user problem. Sash DD-WRT Guru Joined: 20 Sep 2006 Posts: 17638 Location: Hesse/Germany Posted: Fri Mar 05, 2010 18:32 Post subject: sandman06 wrote: so if you need it ur suggesting we pay a premium.

If you don't know enough about routing, you should not be here. DD-WRT, Openwrt, tomato, or any of the others will be no different if you aren't willing to listen to the people who have been doing this for more years than you have owned a computer. In the compatibility list there are a lot of routers that requires activation. I understand that that means you have to pay to get some kind of key but I don't understand the concept. I have searched the wiki, the general DD-WRT as well as the activation center FAQ for a description of what activation actually means, to no avail.

I assume it is described somewhere, I just seem unable to find it. Can anyone here help me with a link or something? Feels weird that OSS should need activation - anyone should be able to read the code and easily reverse engineer the activation routine. Of course not but still, it would be difficult to prevent people from 'cracking' something the source is available to. Red Hat does not (?) sell the software, they sell support agreements. If you can build your own custom firmware, fine and dandy, but don't complain if you brick your router or burn a chip inside. As far as I know, by activation you gain access to professional features, if you don't need them, maybe you won't need activation.
