Strange issue.my AutoCAD users run this Script many times a day: PlotRotMode 1 -PLOT Y MODEL HP LASERJET 9040 PCL 6 11X17 INCHES LANDSCAPE N EXTENTS FIT CENTER Y pinn.CTB Y WIREFRAME N Y Y REGEN It works day in and day out with AutoCAD LT 2008 through 2015. But when a new PC/Install goes to run it, this script fails at this point: UNKNOWN COMMAND INCHES And it only happens on the 11x17. We have the same script for 14x8 and it works just fine. I can't seem to wrap my brain around this. Any suggestions? Zach Little wrote: The issue is (at least in my 2016 version of AutoCad), that 11x17 does not exist.

If you change it to 11x17in. Then it works, and yes the period after 'in' matters! 14x8 is valid, 24x36 is valid, but for whatever reason 11x17 is not, however 11x17in.

I've been troubleshooting this before I saw your post and I am about to confirm your post. The odd thing is, this worked in Windows 7 but when doing an in place upgrade to Windows 10 for this user, this script quit working.

Is it case sensitive? I tried 11X17in. And it still stops, goes to COMMAND and when inches is entered, it says unknown command. Apologies for diving into this thread, but thought I'd chime in here as I'm the author of, and have experienced exactly what you describe above. I'll answer this hear, as in case someone else stumbles across this thread in the future. Every print-driver describes the sheet sizes differently. One may call it 11x17, another 11 x 17 (notice the spaces).

I've seen 11x17' (with the inches sign), and 11'x17', 11X17 and on an on it goes. Typically when writing/debugging a plot script, and things aren't working when running as desired in 'script mode', I'll try a few things. Some background.

Sometimes AutoCAD has trouble (like you've discovered) taking a piece of 'text' passed back from a script, and applying it to the prompt in the command line. I attribute it to possibly the use of hidden characters, or a memory issue, or it simply not being 'ready' for the response (handshaking issue).

Printing

To experiment, I'll sometimes add double-quotes to any 'text' line in the script. Thus making the line look like this '11x17'. This is problematic if the text already has a ' in it. Second thing (if you are desperate to have things print) you can first try running a SINGLE print using the dialog box, and setting the 11x17 correctly, then in your script leave the line that specifies paper size BLANK.
